Gennady and Veronika Sizovs
Yury Gurchin (VBLHEP) and the yacht team "Azimut" won the Commonwealth Cup in the Open 800 class in Minsk. Gennady and Veronika Sizovs as members of the crew "Gerda" became leaders in "The sails of Russia" in Tver. Denis Franchuk, as a member of the crew of the yacht "Inok", won the 5th place in the first stage of the Quarter-Ton Fleet Association Cup at the Klyazminsky reservoir (water sports base "Hals"). Egor Franchuk spoke at the championship of the Central Federal District in the water area of the Pestovsky reservoir.

Sailing in Dubna has a long tradition. Yacht clubs at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and SEZ appeared in the mid-1950s along with the official birth of Dubna as a city in 1956. The cityscape could not be imagined without sails, the sails over the Volga were Dubna's hallmark, as it was presented to the world through photographs by Yu.A.Tumanov. Sailing in Dubna reached a special heyday in the 1980s - early 1990s of the XX century when the children's sailing section consisted of 30-40 young Dubna residents chaired by Nikolay Tikhanchev. They became winners and prize-winners of regional and all-Union competitions. Several masters of sports and yacht captains were trained. In the 2000s, Andrey Pasev took over the baton, in which the section lasted more than 10 years. Due to certain infrastructure difficulties in 2020, the section closed. E.E.Donets (VBLHEP) constantly participated in the organization and refereeing of the open championships of Dubna in sailing.

Crew of the yacht "Inok"

After a three-year hiatus in 2023, thanks to the initiative group of Dubna yachtsmen with the active support of JINR Directorate, as well as the JINR Property Complex Development Department, the sailing section resumed its work. The goal of the new project was the development and popularization of sailing and yachting tourism among children and adults, the organization and hosting of major sailing competitions in the Volga, Ivankovo reservoir, the revival of the participation of Dubna racing crews in competitions at the regional, federal and international levels. Over a three-year period, three Open Championships of Dubna in sailing have been organized at the JINR Tourist Resort on Lipnya Island. Sailing training camps of athletes are held, some participants in the section constantly participate in federal and regional competitions, become their winners.

In 2025-2027, athletes will participate in local and away competitions: the championship of the Moscow Region in Pirogovo, the Verkhnevolzhskaya sailing regatta, "the People's Regatta" in Konakovo; "Sails of Russia", "Sunset regattas" in St. Petersburg, Tver regattas and others. Today, among the members of the Sailing Club (and there are already about 100 people), 75 percent are employees of the Institute. In 2025, JINR acquired eight hulls of new Olympic class yachts "Optimist" (for children) and "Luch" (for adults).

In the programme of the City Day, a parade of sails will be organized.
